Stay Safe Virtual Course

Description

The Red Cross « Stay Safe! » course equips young people with the knowledge needed to stay home alone. Participants will gain the skills necessary to ensure their safety while unsupervised. Additionally, they will learn basic first aid techniques while having fun.

Virtual course content

• The importance of taking responsibility.
• Establishing and following safety rules.
• How to stay safe at home.
• Ways to prepare for, recognize, and respond appropriately to unexpected situations (e.g., severe weather, encounters with strangers, or unexpected visitors).
• Basic first aid: Calling 911, choking, asthma, severe allergic reactions (how to use an auto-injector), poisoning, minor cuts, scrapes, nosebleeds, severe bleeding, burns, etc.

Course materials included
  • Red Cross "Ready to Stay Home Alone" workbook (postage and handling included).
  • Red Cross certificate of completion.
Required equipment
  • Participants must have access to a computer or tablet equipped with a camera and microphone and connected to the Internet.
  • Access to a Zoom account is required; if you do not have one, you can create one for free before the first class.
  • After registering your child, you will receive a confirmation email outlining the required course materials.
  • Approximately 24 hours before the course begins, you will receive an email containing the Zoom link to join the sessions; we recommend adding our email address (info@mebformations.ca) to your contacts or checking your spam folder.
  • The participant will receive their manual one to two days before the course.

How to register

  • To get started, please select your preferred date and click "Register."
  • After registering your child, you will receive two confirmation emails: your payment receipt and an email listing the required materials. If you do not receive the payment receipt, your child is not registered.
  • Please note that a $3 registration fee will be added.

How to receive the Red Cross certificate

  • The participant must be between 9 and 13 years old or have completed Grade 3.
  • Your child must attend all course sessions to pass and receive the certificate.
  • The participant must be mature and responsible, and take part in all practical and theoretical exercises.
  • Only one participant is allowed per screen.
  • The participant will receive their certificate via email approximately 30 days after completing the course.
